By now, many visitor's, and Artists, will have heard of "Freedom*", even if it has been through curiosity in taking a look at the music videos on YouTube, or visits to Freedom's Official 'SoundCloud Page'. The fact that the 24-year-old Gipton Rapper of Leeds has graced the Internet since 2010, he has brought a somewhat lighter and yet, raw edge to 'Lyrical Verse'.

In this Exclusive 4x4 Review, we bring together both the sound and visual constructs that has brought "Freedom*" out of the shadows and for the first time, but certainly not the last, to project his essence and soul upon one hard-line platform. Reviewed by four 'Reviewers' of "The Dark Tower", for four times the strength, we bring you "Freedom*"...

The Looking Glass

Taking a jump into a more melodic overture in musical colourisation, the initial viola-piano intro brings together a clash of an almost ‘Hip-Hop’ calibration, while an invoked bassline brings the course lyrics to life with a crescendo of rhyming storytelling from ‘Freedom*’. Certainly a piece of work that has what would be otherwise called ‘Hardcore’, the track contains the spirited sense of ‘Related Conduct’, but adds its powerful message by chorus: Take A Look, Thru The Looking Glass Of Life… And certainly, by the structuring this work needs not explain the foundations, the build or the ending quotes which we are sure many people can relate to, whether in normal living standards, or through a more tainted pathway journey.

The Looking Glass has become something of a regular listening example of today’s most thirsty listeners of Rap – even hardcore dope sounds – where, for a long time the holding back of such styles and deliberations have subsequently failed to reach out and touch those points of contact in the listener’s ears. Where these previous tracks have failed to trigger the taste for more, it is with The Looking Glass we get a smooth mix of various freestyles, starting from the intro, through the melodic, almost trance-like backing sound, to the determined lyrical masterpiece that comes down onto a plateau of absolute awesome junctures and framework from ‘Freedom*’ himself.

Scum

Descending into a much deeper, darker and best intentional rap crescendo of both common status and association to the more connective descriptive track that most will admit they too can relate to themselves from this British performer. Scum uses the balanced degree of flow and charge to each and every word that emanates from what is initially believed to be that of a 'Hard Core Rap', and something that has been misgiven content in order to provoke the listener into an emotional response usually only associated with well established artists. All the same, what "Scum" delivers is a pre-hook that drags the listener into a fuelled track of anger at street level labelling, and yet, only by the end does it make it clear a message otherwise buried and never before heard; the ‘matter of fact’ lyrics into which ‘Freedom*’ breaks out into chorus filled agitated breath: I’ve Lived My Life In The Slums, You Won’t Believe How Far I’ve Come. People Have Looked Upon Me As Scum, Because Of All The Things I’ve Done… It is because of this break down that manages to split up the track, and by doing so, brings a fresh new approach in style to the performer’s credit.

From the initial intro, accompanying freestyle inserts enlighten this work, only to rest a decision from the listener whether or not to take the message on-board, or pass it off to a point where they see the creative variations’ in the music. Either way, it is "Scum" that many will find a most favourable addition to their playlist rundown.

Jack The Lad

There have been many acts that have taken a roll of the dice on their works, many who have in the same respects as “Freedom*”, a new Rapper from England, UK, who has taken on the one challenge most difficult to beat – and literally smashed it with leisurely precision. With “Jack The Lad”, our ears listen to ivory key jingles, a slow mish-mash reggae (almost) sweep beat, while lifting the entire track up is this rising chorus that has been favourable to the likes of “UB40” during the late ‘80’s and ‘90’s. Combined we become surrounded by one top class and brilliantly refined sound that can only be praised for what it is – Gold.

Lyrically, we are given the story – yes, a story – of Jack, who from childhood to youth has a string of problematic street credibility misadventures that spill over into his private life. Only when Jack’s run of hapless bad luck ends with his death do we learn of the continued heart-ache and pain that is echoed so frequently around in all cities and nations around the world. For this story, provided by seriously honest lyrics laid down by “Freedom*”, we are touched by the realities and realism which the track shares. To make this gel and bond more adaptable and, in many ways borne into the mind, is the frequency driven chorus that delivers a factual statement before pulling back with a drifted questionable alternative: You Don’t Understand Me, But if The Feeling Was Right You Might Comprehend Me… The off-the-cuff instigator that will have the ears pf the listeners pricking up, taking notice and, eventually calling attention to the entire power play.

All in all, what we are hearing is a localised 24-year-old Suburban Estate Rapper, who through a simplified method of experience – maybe – takes the lyrical stance of sharing his voice with the listeners. In doing this, however, what “Freedom*” fails to understand, is that the music and lyrics that he writes and performs is ballistically valid for a more mainstream position than where they are the moment – YouTube, SoundCloud, ReverbNation, etc., etc. – although, only a higher ranking build can be achieved, grabbed and accordingly endorsed.

“Ha, ha, ha, Guess Whose Back?” circumventing one of the most perturbing orchestrated sounds that we have ever heard, Freedom* brings together a clash of deep, dark and well stewed sounds, lyrics and theoretical body language from a track – though short – which has you listening with cautionary pleasure. At the same time his unique trait of rapping lyrical methodology instigates the right balance of statement before all round listening; as we have heard from previous tracks such as “Jack The Lad” and “Looking Glass”, this talented performer has created a main stream persona, raw edge combination to both music and lyrics, while at the very least embossing the real sense and feel to an otherwise string of hits often associated with the ‘Urban Underground’.

Watched by many as upcoming, seen by others as potentially – though unofficially – established, MSP consider ‘Freedom*’ as an act worthy of a recording contract, but all facts considered, it is this performer who has managed to acquire a large following in a short time, gained a respectful and connectable fan base that is only growing – the target audience being unlimited through a massive global community. And, given the right support, we estimate ‘Freedom*’ being one of the top rap acts of 2015, while soaring into 2016 with numerous new musical foundations that will place the 24-year-old from Leeds into his rightful place next to many of today’s best artists.

FOTC - As The Story Goes (Reviewed)…

If we were to say that "Friday” by Freedom of the City was one of the freshest indie singles to cross our desk (at the time), and that the as yet unreleased "Boots of Leather” lifted the hairs at the back of all our necks, then it would not surprise any of our Readers and Followers of The Red Hive and The Dark Tower, that "As The Story Goes” has caused more than an Electrical Storm through our Wall of Sound - literally.

Here we have a 150% array of hard hitting guitar work opening up the cues for the talented George Brown (FOTC’s Lead Singer and Guitarist), Simon Goodwin (Drummer), Paul Cantwell (Rhythm Guitar and Vocals), and Matej Velicky (Bass) who takes this track into, through and beyond the chasms of satisfying listening from a seated position, to a more up and at it stance of ‘Alt/Rock Ready’ Live magnitude. Nevertheless, Studio Set or Live, it would be the same result and outcome for the listener who has succumbed to the very same freshly pressed, reinvented and off the methodology chart of previous musicians and bands that have created a potential hit in itself.

With more than sixty percent of The Dark Tower expressing their opinions on the Opening Guitar Intro, it is safe to say that most of listeners hearing this track will agree that there is a Mark Knopfler, Brian May, even Eric Clapton style of play going on. As for band styles, certainly those outside of the Indie Box of melodic overtures would stand at ‘The Mission’, ‘Guns & Roses’, and maybe even that of ‘Def Leppard’ in amplitude. Truly a perfect choice to get attention, while simmering down for a Vocal invasion that has the hallmarks (in our opinion) of Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) for the soothing, but powerful deliverance of vocals that are absolutely superb.

In-depth deconstruction of this track has brought The Dark Tower to conclude that "As The Story Goes” consists of nothing less than a would-be high ranking Summer hit that would no doubt be a selected title track for those out and about in their convertibles, driving to or from a spellbinding destination, or, possibly a select track for a high end motion picture that expels the more down beat and grim noir sounds to opt for energy, lift and fast track beaconised placement. All of these examples are fine for such a top class record that will without a doubt celebrate a following who has kept Freedom of the City in a category of substance, awesomeness and rating above serious status within the music field.

As we sit with baited breath for "fotc’s” new forthcoming album (as yet ‘Un-Named and) with as yet undisclosed ‘Track Listing’, it is already estimated that the Manchester band will come out of this on top. With ‘As The Story Goes’ not making the initial cut of the album, it was decided to change the atmosphere and location site to that of ‘Firelight Studios’, while working with Mikey Rowe, better known for his involvement with other great Manchester bands such as ‘Oasis’, and ‘High Flying Birds’, the result of this collaboration is yet to be heard upon the album release which can only lead to one thing – Awesomeness awaiting its epic release. As well as ‘As The Story Goes’, more is for the future release ‘Silence In Sound’, which, judging by the current creation is sure to emerge as yet another great sounding track. Recently revealed info we have been given is that ‘As The Story Goes’ has not been ruled out entirely of being included on the forthcoming album, though to have heard and experienced it on ‘Soundcloud’ alone, has been quite an honour.

Additional and exclusive info we received is that there are 17 songs being recorded between Andy Macpherson’s Studio (Andy McPherson Produced both ‘Eric Clapton’ and ‘The Who’) and that of Freedom of the City’s own studio ‘Firelight Studios’, which in the end will be trimmed down to between 10 or 11 for the final cut album. Of course, if ‘As The Story Goes’ is just one example of this albums content, then we here at The Dark Tower don’t envy any of the Band or Production the job of making a choice. Freedom Of The City - Friday (Single Review)

When "Friday” came to life over the sound system here at "The Dark Tower” the first thing that came from the sad looking faces around the Manor was to turn up the volume. Strange as it would seem, but true, was that like an awakening army of otherwise zombiefied staff members they all got up and started interacting with the track; feet were tapping, heads were rocking, hands were hitting out at the invisible drum kits in the sky, and not even half way into the track the Air Guitars were out in respectful wake to the melodic and pleasant surge of George Brown’s fantastic guitar work.

Lyrically, the track has two main vents for its success; the first is the obvious toe tapper liking that will endeavour to get into everybody’s mind, while the sheer sharp differential freestyle basis will take it through many mainstream channels of the public domain. Whether on the radio, iTunes, CD, YouTube, or even MTV, it will be tracks such as "Friday”, "Colour My Mind”, "Firelights” and "Find You” that will open their journey as a successful name stepping into the limelight where they truly belong.

Personally, it is the dream of ‘The Dark Tower’ to review this band’s debut EP, where upon the first note "Firelights” would be the opening gesture of favourite to the selection. Having chosen "Friday” however, which is equally as great sounding as the rest, it gives us all that get up and do feeling – As Sean Michael’s will no doubt bear witness to – from the start of this track, right to the very end.

Certainly making a difference from the many tracks that we have been asked to look at over the past couple of years, it would seem that "Freedom Of The City”, the band from Manchester has everything going on through their sound and style. As the lyrics come in with flawless timing that takes "Friday” on this fresh journey of awakening the spirit, we keep in mind the conventional stand in which brought other great music from the city, too, though the capture and progress of FOTC heightens the senses in more ways than one; the distinctive guitar riffs that remind us of so many past legendary similarities, the bass that matches up to the drive of the rhythmic tempo, the drums that holds the whole track together as it rolls into and through some pleasant chaos that becomes a nectar to the ears, and the vocals that stay on top form throughout while simmering perfectly for a sudden wake up finale, it is everything within this song that sounds surreal, vivid and intentional of the lyrics.

The Music Video

Often, as in so many cases the bands of today prefer to create music videos where the whole emphasis is on…Well – Sex; a band playing around scantily clad women is a great image to have, right? Wrong. Freedom Of The City have broken the mould with "Friday” which shows the whole reasons on why their lyrics pour so much dedication and conviction out to their listeners and viewers. George Brown’s look, too, gives the viewer no illusions on his ability to tackle the lyrics as well as Okay, so there are no flash nesting alter-egos flashing their bling, or lead singers driving around in fast cars while advertising products, or stars walking around looking good and selling the video to the ones who would rather vote for the celebrity than the original sound that is absorbing in their ears. The "Friday” track is what it is with no holds barred on the end result, and it is for this reason that they will surpass all the others for being the genuine deal.

Formed in June 2010 and hailing from Manchester, England, Freedom Of The City have created four tracks, with "Friday” boasting a very firm based Music Video that shows the dedication and determination of this Indie Band that is on the up. Certainly, from our point of view, there is nothing more serious happening in and around Manchester than FOTC. Having listened, watched and looked into this band intensely, we see no reason why they cannot be one of the next best thing in music coming out of Manchester, out of the United Kingdom and out into the world with global success.

The Band:

Freedom Of The City (aka FOTC for short) is a Mancunian four piece male band that serves in an Indie, Rock and Pop Group genre of musicians of whom both George Brown and Paul Cantwell certainly don't have any trouble tickling their guitar strings to produce an intoxicating degree of melodic and mesmerising structure, while Simon Goodwin beats out his drums to break the air with the rhythmic fluid bass from Matej Velicky’s setting off the entirety of tracks at a rate that would best serve the musical seekers who crave only the best sound. Fundamentally, we are looking at one of the newest – if not best Indie/Rock bands to emerge from Manchester in a very long time, and it certainly goes without saying that these guys know exactly where they're heading in terms of the musical cascade. George Brown’s whole attitude clearly shows that he is singing to be heard – and heard he is by the in-key rising phases, stepping stones and breaks that bring together perfectly executed songs.

After forming in June 2010, FOTC have headlined Futureheads and Kid British, while headlining in Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and London - as well as their very own home of Manchester at the renowned "Ruby Lounge” and ‘B.I.A.B (Band In A Box). It was all the hard work of their three year slog that brought them out with a Management Deal that has led them here in today’s society as one of the most noted Rock bands that stand alongside other greats such as Feeder and Radiohead in style, and who have entertained the world over, as will FOTC when finally their time will send them into the field of the known, the best regarded, most respected and finally, put them into the place where they truly deserve to be…This is Freedom Of The City, and they will rock your soul until it can’t rock no more. Whether it’s the solid gold plated cover version of "Just The Way You Are” from Bruno Mars, to the tear it down "Bleed The Sky Dry”, one thing's for sure in 2013, and that is "Freedom Of The City” are going to become a great asset to the music scene – and that’s a fact.

Kassoma – Control (The Review)

After receiving a brief "Tweet” from James Moon on my "Twitter”, I was curious of the bands’ name: "Kassoma”, which led me to take a little listen at the YouTube video that they had posted and have a listen…What happened next was something that both myself and The Dark Tower had not done in a long time – We broke this band down to its basic mechanics, it’s mere fundamental beginning’s, while reassembling, building up and scrutinizing the instruments of this monstrously huge Manchester music sensation – that is according to my two nine year old daughters, however.

As well as "Kassoma” having one of the greatest – catchiest – names on the music circuit so far in 2013, it was while listening to "Control” we discovered the new sound with a slightly respective essence of a distant past. Certainly, the likes of Indie’s Groups within todays mish-mash and sometimes mixed up ebb flowing music scene have missed something along the way, but where many have faltered, it would appear "Kassoma” have succeeded. The straight laced melody hinging at the end of a seriously hardened introduction has surpassed the risk of failure, bringing in the guitar while James Moon begins his lyrical journey of a ballad/soft rock enlightenment that will mark that pivotal remaking, resounding frequency of sound that has set the music industry ablaze with equal curiosity and wonder.

As with The Dark Tower, and indeed the music that we alone hand select to review, the usual jolt that we acquire with past bands, groups and solo artists normally draw an amount of shall we say "Electricity”, while our food for thought usually progresses from the melodic music that fills our yearning for "Public Interest”. However, with the Manchester based "Kassoma”, everything has been paused, stopped even, to the extent where we have actually broken the first rule of our law in which to inform the masses of our "Verdict”. Not a lot of people will like what we have to say, while the many will be sure relieved to hear the outcome that we believe is the best decision in our (short but fruitful) history of being a "Music Review Site”.

Our Honest Verdict…

Kassoma has had us up on our feet, enlightening the streets and locations that we have driven around, had people remark with anxious bated breath on how they love the new sound and asking where they can get the single, and most of all, we fear that we may have caused an uprising of avid "Kassoma” followers here in West Yorkshire – sorry guys. As far as the single is concerned, we love it, we can’t get enough of giving it maxed out "Air Play” while mobile, and we are thrilled, honoured and in the very best way and method of "Thanks”, we have become engrossed in awaiting your next single…And, we are so sure that "Kassoma” will have no problems with the current single, or the entry into a Top 10 spot. The Dark Tower will try its very best not to lose sight of this sensational bands progress through their journey to the top and respect Mr Moon’s privacy, but keep in touch when possible between his bands "World Tours”.

Control was recorded in Manchester by Danny Lister of AgeBase, mixed in London by Simon Cullwick (Arctic Monkeys / OMD) and Mastered by Robin Schmidt (Emeli Sandé / Mumford & Sons) of 24/96 in Karlsruhe, Germany. The video was filmed in Manchester City Centre by Jonathan Buck & Garry Greenaway of Two Headed Snake Productions. Since the video went on YouTube the response has been phenomenal. DJ 2basses is Norbert Surówka. He was born in Valladolid, Spain. Since 2003 he has been both a DJ and music producer living in Zakopane.

Music has been a part of his life since he was young. He started his music education in elementary school and continued through high school. Since turning 12 he has been interested in electronic music. It was then when he met people who helped him through the first steps in acoustics, DJ equipment and how to use it. For the next several years he was training himself and gaining knowledge about the club music mixing techniques. Because of his hard work at age of 16, he played in several clubs. A year later he was a resident DJ for one of the clubs in Zakopane.

In 2009 he received his DJ certificate from DJ Promotion. He then met a few music producers like Alien in Transit, who helped him expend into the European market. In 2010 two of his sets were played on Greek, English, and Dutch radio stations. The same year he also took part in the event "DJ K'Reeves B-Day Party" next to Marcel Woods, Angelo Mike, Arctic Moon, First State, Toxic Noiz, Sebastian S., DJ K'Reeves, MicRoChips & Mollo, Alex Di Stefano, DJ Wojtala, Stante T., Andrea Roma, D. Ramirez, DJ Lucca, DJ Tomala, Jonas Stenberg, Andrew Bennet, DJ Greco, Paul Ercossa, DJ Solano, Mario Ayuda, Jackob Rocksonn, Mark Sixma (M6), Bart Claessen, Krzysztof Chochlow, Joe B. & Sabas, Kris O'Neil.

In 2011 he played in clubs like Vavavoom, in which he became a resident. He was also played on a German radio station Globalbeats in DJ Ele's show - Mission Horizon. 2012 was a big year for DJ 2basses. His best shows included live music with Arcadioo Violin (violin), Grzegorz Piwowoński (saxophone), Michał Dziewiński (drums), Mad Fiddle (violin). Early 2012 he played in a series of shows in Vavavoom called " Smartie Partie" with artists mostly known in London or Ibiza like Mark Wilkinson, Beatsworkin, Jamie Bawn, Alex Dempster, Matt Purkis, Scot Mochan, Pete Dorling, Reece Brett, Jaynee Wilkins and Andrew Johnston.

After his set "Lost in Trance" he was invited to a radio show in Norway. Last autumn he took part in the show next to Polish DJs/producers Junkie Punks "Project X Poland"in Zakopane. By the end of the year his first productions are going to be complete. His passion is Trance and House, even though we can hear different music influences in his sets. His portfolio includes shows in clubs like: Vavavoom (Z-ne),ADHD (Nowy Targ), Czekolada (Bielsko-Biała), Magnetism (Kielce), Ultraviolet (Kielce), Dworzec Tatrzański (Z-ne), Prestige (Z-ne), Finlandia Arctic Club (Z-ne), Genesis (Z-ne), Paparazzi (Z-ne), Rockus (Z-ne), Inferno (Z-ne), oraz Heaven & Hell (Nowy Targ). MKDS Reviews...

After listening to DJ 2basses' "Lost in Trance" 2012 Set, the actuality hit my senses that this DJ is far from your 'Normal' Deck-Mix Jocks, but something more. In the set of "Lost in Trance" the listener is able (depending on how loud you have it up on the car stereo, hi-fi or MP3 Player) to witness the unleashed passion that this guy puts 100% into the result - a result that will have many reaching for the "Play Again" button.

Lost in Trance 2012 set has crossed many styles, the bass, the melody and even the vocals throughout this 1 hour 1 minute set encourages the feet, legs and hands to move, while the embodied 'Sub-Basses', take the listener onto a whole new level. Its finely mixed, it doesn't choke the ambience when in Melodic Style and at the end of the set the DJ takes care to wind down the hectic, sometimes chaotic overtures that would otherwise leave them all hanging -a beginning, a middle to peak, and then a wind down to slowly settle on a fantastic conclusion of a musical night.

The Dark Tower will be keeping a good eye on Norbert Surówka (DJ 2basses), and certainly give support where we can towards his performances, highlights and deliverance of his work out in the Public Domain. We wish you all the best Norbert and look forward to hearing your next set.

When we look at Music, we also look at all the influences in which accompanies it, too. The [MKDS] Network 2012 is large, vast and becoming even more popular throughout the Internet. With DCA (Due Care and Attention), we provide "Information", some valuable, some very valuable, while other "Information" which we categorise as "Public Domain Details" (Or PDD), is given up as an ongoing display of our interests.

The Network concentrates on "Researched" and "Factual" information that is "Sourced" from reliable areas of the globe, while the "Source" can be questioned (and it sometimes is), the interesting objective is to "Provide", and "Feed" the Readers, Surfers and Enquirers. Such enquiries most recent were those questions directed at the "Skyrim: Online" information, facts and screen shots that we placed on our "Everything About Games", while the new "Google Nexus 7" mobile phone information caused many people to doubt the abilities of "Storm Multi-Media Technologies" and "GWN (Global World News)" Blogs, which sent out the information just moments after they were announced publicly by the companies concerned.

So, the power in the hands of "The [MKDS Network" is, as you will find, not really power at all, but the essence of "Elite Bloggers" who find the gaps between one Topic and another. In turn, we Niche, Report, Investigate and Feed the Information through the necessary Conduit for the Reader, Surfer or Enquirer to look up. There is no real secret that surrounds our Network, except for the "Associations" in which provide 20% (at the very least) of the Information that goes outward of the "Online Service" - which is completely FREE. Basically, it is a true fact that "The [MKDS] Network" is a growing non-profit, non-gaining Internet Presence with more than 5.3 million Readers and Followers who fall upon our "Blogs", "Websites" and other "Conduit Platforms" every month. A few months ago, we "The Dark Tower" called out to the world of musical artists and asked them if they would let us "The Dark Tower" Review their work, and we received many responses from many bands, solo artists and even Brass Bands - we shit you not - and that was just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

The original "Shout Out" was from a certain "YouTube Channel" within "The Network", and from there we have been asked to listen, review and even help with demo-mp3 publications. Of course, as a "Music Review" website, we cannot empower ourselves to have "Artists" work published, nor can we accept any "Payment" for reviewing your great work, either, but we can make you a solemn promise:

We promise to look at and listen to as many pieces of work as we possibly can. Saying this, the process is slow, but it is thorough and it IS fair. Our track record so far for the "Open and Honest Reviews" of various topics, styles and genre's throughout the Internet is becoming known - which is all good - but we need YOU to take a piece of the pie, too, by bringing yourselves, your family, your friends, your girlfriends, even your grandparents onto one of the most honest "Music Review" sites anywhere on the "World Wide Web". That way, if you're like Lemmy, Fisch, or Ozzy, as well as Oaky, Tiesto, Buuren, or Linky, then you're Kin will be proud to call you their offspring.
